Board Chair Calls Police At School Board Meeting Morganton- The Burke County Board of Education meeting got out of hand today, causing the Board Chair to call the police. The meeting began with member Buddy Armour asking for the meeting to be moved to a larger venue. Nearly 200 people showed up to the meeting. The room can only hold 85 people. The motion was voted down. An associate superintendent asked one person to leave the meeting, and that is when things got testy. The associate superintendent called police and Board Chair Tracy Norman did the same. WBTV News 3 reports that one person got up to attempt to quiet the crowd. Board Chair Norman told the man "Sir, you do not have the floor." After one hour, police cleared many of the people out of the room and two hours later, the board came back with their decision on whether to begin the search for a new superintendent. The board approved 4-2 to approve the search for a new superintendent despite numerous lawsuits filed against the school board. The matter will be going before a judge next week.
