David Burleson Resigns As Superintendent of Burke
County Public Schools
Morganton- By a vote of 4-2, the Burke County Board of Education accepted
David Burleson's resignation as superintendent of Burke County Public
Schools.
The School Board went into closed session for nearly 90 minutes. At around
2:10 p.m., the school board returned.
At this time, Burleson passed out a letter of resignation to school board
members. By a vote of 4-2, the school board approved the resignation of
Burleson.
The board will have to pay Burleson $172,000, according to WCNC.
Associate Superintendent Rick Sherrill has been promoted to acting
superintendent. This motion was approved by a vote of 5-1.
Following the vote to accept Burleson's resignation, the school board voted
3-2, with one person abstained, to appoint John Auglur onto the school board.
Auglur will fill the seat that was filled by David Barnard. Barnard resigned
earlier this year.
