Deputy Earns National Award
Morganton- A Burke County Sheriff's deputy who was shot in 2007 received a national award.
Martin Lawing was shot in the neck during a standoff in Morganton in December 2007. Lawing was paralyzed from the waist down.
The National Sheriff's Association named Lawing the deputy sheriff of the year. He was presented the award Monday in Florida.
