Morganton- Two pedestrians were struck by vehicles in Burke County on Friday and Saturday.

Caroline Riddle, 78, was killed after she was struck by a vehicle on West Union Street in Morganton. Riddle was thrown approximately fifty feet from the spot where she was struck. Riddle was crossing the road in front of her home when she was struck. The driver of the vehicle, Amy Absher, 48, told police that the sun was setting in her eyes, preventing her from seeing Riddle. Police are investigating.

On Saturday, a four-year-old boy was struck by a Jeep on Doublehead Drive. Janette Stamey, 72, had finished washing her vehicle and was backing into the driveway when the boy was hit. The boy was airlifted to Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
